Default Overseeding?

I bought my first house last winter so I'm in my first lawn season. I have a tall and fine fescue lawn. Probably close to 60% grass and 40% weeds. This season I hired a company to come and fertilize and kill the weeds. In the fall, when the weeds are gone I will need to heavily overseed the lawn. I've checked 3 areas and the most thatch I've seen is 1/2". I plan on aerating prior to dropping seeds. Are there any suggestions on how to get the most seeds germinating/growing? Or any other advice you have? And how long should I wait to mow after putting down seed?

when you over seed, I would put down starter fert too.

if you feel like top dressing, that would probably help germination, but is not necissary.

I would wait until the seeds are fairly established before you mow again. make sure you mow the lawn low before you overseed.

have you considered slit seeding?
