I'm just starting my lawn care service, and I've read alot advice in this forum, but one thing I have trouble doing is knocking on doors. Where I live, alot of people won't even open the door for people trying to sell a service. I have an ad in my local paper, and have put up flyers in my local shops. I'm in the process of getting my website up and running. Any other advice on what I should do?

Hello, I wouldn't worry as much about the web site yet. I would make up fliers on your computer or Kinko's type store. You can roll them and drop them on door steps. Stick them to the doors with tape. You should stop as many other lawn guys you see and ask if they have any accounts they don't want anymore. Or give them your number and ask them to send anything they don't need your way. A have a full route and give away accounts all the time to friends in the biz. They have to go and estimate the job themselves. You might want to place a FREE ad on craigslist. Hope that helps some? Stefan

I found that going to houses just around dinner time is best, most of the family is home and someone will answer the door. Make sure you shake their hand and be polite, get to the point must people know what they want in seconds. Most people say no or I already have somebody but if they don't respond with these two answers they are interest so sell yourself to them. Make sure you have a hand out to give to them. Last summer I went around for 5 days and nothing but the 6 day I got 3 clients so don't give up on your self thing will fall into place if you keep working hard.
