How much does a new Kohler 25hp engine cost? The place where I do my business at wants $2000 for a new engine and the labor for putting it on. The thing is, it still starts and drives around, but it has very little power. Could it just need an oil pump?
Also, how much does it cost for wheel motors on a dixie chopper flatlander? My mower can't even go up the slightest incline. |

and you know that this is an engine problem right? ask them if they did this:
compression test on both cylinders. check carb. check air filter. there are only four things required for a motor to run. compression, spark, gas, and air. so, if it's not getting one of those things, it needs to be fixed. but, if all of those check out ok, then I would say you need to look at the hydro system, and the blade drive system. if the engine runs, there is NO reason you need a new engine. did they tell you what is wrong with it? if they didn't tell you, and they just say "it needs a new engine" then you are getting ripped. I had a dealer try to do that to me, nothing even wrong with the engine, just a blown oil pan seal. sheesh. |

They never did say what was wrong with it other than the fact that it was getting any oil pressure. Then they offered me $300 for it. Ya right!

Tight Angles, You never said if This problem has been corrected or not, but just for future reference smallenginewarehouse.com has the 25hp Kohler listed from $1500 - $1825 depending on which configuration you need. There prices are the lowest I've found anywhere in the country. Hope you were able to fix the problem without a new engine! Also a lot of hydros have set screws where the forward/reverse drive rod bracket attaches to the hydro pump, if these screws are not tight you will lose forward or reverse power. check them... I do know of one local dealer who tried selling a new hydro pump to an unsuspecting new hydro owner, and all he needed to do was tighten one of these 4 screws!!
