Thumbs up Looking for Mentors

Hi,

I'm new to the business and I am looking for advice and mentors to get a good start.

I tried to start this business last year with my son and we just couldn't get any customers. We made some very nice door hanger flyers and went door to door in our neighboorhood. We did not get one single phone call. I was working in a job that I have been trying to get out of for awhile and we have been slowly purchasing equiptment. We have a new zero turn and blower and string trimmer and a push mower as well. We need a trailer to haul our equiptment, but that should be coming soon. I am currently driving a truck, which keeps me away from home too much. So starting a business with my son is something that would great. We need some good ideas to get us some customers and get this thing going.

So any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Richard

Default Accounts

Hello, You might want to just print out some fliers on your home computer. That way you are advertising on the cheap. Just go outside your neighborhood. You also want to stop and talk to other lawn guys you see. Many like me don't have any room for more accounts. I end up giving away names and numbers to friends in the biz. Put a ad on craigslist. You might just want to buy some to get into some neighborhoods. Then when people see your work they will call or stop and ask for a estimate. If you end up buying some don't pay anymore then 3 month per account! Hope that helps? Stefan

Default Recommendations, Recomendations

I have found out that your rep has a great thing to do with how successful you are. When I started three years ago I just cut a few yards. I have gotten quite a few more where people recomended me to other people. Also my customers would tell them about me when they saw my work. I am very picky about how well the job is done. That is also how I got my most of my jobs. If you can get in with a realty company, I have done a lot of jobs for them. You dont have a yard every week, but they call me whenever they need a yard cut or a mulching job. So its good extra money.

Default looking for mentors

try servicemagic.com or even try landscapeleads.com you have to pay for your leads however at least you get potential customers. Also when you get customers, word of mouth is the best way. Use them as references. Your previous customers will help you out a lot.
