Default Questions For all?

Would you terminate an employee for taking time off for a funeral for a family member?
Need some input before I consider my next step!!

Depends on how distant the family member was.

I'm the employee that got terminated, it was my mother -in-law and my boss knew she was not going to live long. She passed away on a Monday night, I called him and talked to him about 8:30 pm that night and he told me "FAMILY FIRST", I told him I'd need a few days and he said "OK". On Tuesday less than 24 hours a tow truck showed up at my house and towed my truck away. I called him when I found out and he said "I WAS FIRED" for not coming into work or calling him on Tuuesday morning!!

In New Zealand you are entitled to 3-5 working days to mourn the death of someone as close as your mother in-law.Not only to support her family in their loss but to be beside your wife or husband. I would be interested to know if their is a provision in your contract that allows for this. There are three things certain in this world, Death, taxes and the grass will always grow.

Snowboss,

Maybe he used that for a reason to fire you. Had you missed any work with him before or had a problem with reliability?
